There are a lot of people out there who don’t yet have a website or blog and always say something like “I should really do that, I could use the extra money” or “I would love to write about X, I bet I could do a blog about that”. My response is, what are you waiting for? No, really. What is it that is standing in your way?

I see so many people who sit on the sidelines and keep saying those same things about how they should do this or that but never lift a finger. I will admit that blogging and/or running a website isn’t for everyone. It is also not something you should take lightly, but if you have ever even considered starting an online business then what could possibly be holding you back?

Since I don’t know your answer - heck, you probably don’t even know it yet - I will just list a few of the “obstacles” that might be standing in your way. Who knows, maybe you’ll see your obstacle and realize how to overcome it.

  • I don’t have the time
  • It’s too much work
  • I don’t know “computers” well enough to run a website
  • What if people make negative comments about my articles
  • I don’t want to risk all that money
  • I’ve got nothing to write about
  • There are already too many people doing that, too much competition

Do any of these sound familiar? Let’s take a look at that list again, only this time I will give you some answers.

  • I don’t have the time - Once you set up your blog (which can take a few hours up front) all you really need to do after that is keep updating posts. A single blog post doesn’t take long to write and doing a few a week is not time consuming at all. You might even find that it is a nice relaxing moment of your day, especially if you just blog about life in general - it’s good to “get it out” sometimes.
  • It’s too much work - See above. Initially there is some work but once that is done, especially with blogging, it’s smooth sailing and all you really have to do is keep on writing!
  • I don’t know “computers” well enough to run a website - While you might need to know more html if you want to run a full website, running a blog, once it’s initially set up, is as easy as writing an email. Learning some of the basics will only enhance your abilities but is not absolutely required anymore. If you can log into Yahoo mail or Gmail, then you can log into Wordpress and write a blog post.
  • What if people make negative comments about my articles - This is bound to happen. Some people are negative people and with the internet comes anonymity, which means they can speak their minds and be as nasty as they want to be because nobody knows who they are in real life. But don’t take it to heart. Those select few will be far outnumbered by the good people who are likely to visit your blog regularly. Also, negative comments can sometimes be a good thing. It’s good to get a discussion going and this often results in more traffic for you.
  • I don’t want to risk all that money - If you sign up for web-hosting and register a domain it should cost you about $100 for an entire year. If that is too much of a risk then you need to really take a good hard look at your finances and figure out how to reduce your debt.
  • I’ve got nothing to write about - If you wake up each morning and do anything at all in each day that you walk this earth then chances are you have something to write about. You’d be surprised what others might find interesting. Sometimes it’s nice just seeing someone else’s perspective on the world. Share yours!
  • There are already too many people doing that, too much competition - There can be a lot of competition out there, but that shouldn’t stop you. One of the most competitive topics on the web, at least where blogs are concerned, is “make money online”. Did that stop me? You’re reading this now aren’t you?

There is money to be made online. It’s up to you to take part in it. You won’t necessarily quit your day job anytime soon but couldn’t you use some extra money? If you answered yes then I urge you to stop procrastinating and get yourself started today! Read through my free resource guides on mrbeachbum.com for some good advice to get you started.
